Why put your baby list online?
π
Every shop in one place
The cot from one nursery retailer, the vests from another, the sling from an independent maker: each item links to the shop of your choice, with several links if needed.
β»οΈ
Second-hand welcome
For each item, say whether a pre-loved one is fine. The item then shows Vinted and Leboncoin search links to your loved ones.
πͺ
No more five sleeping bags
A reserved item is no longer offered to others. Grandparents, colleagues and friends coordinate without even talking to each other.
π€«
The surprise is kept
You don't see who reserved what. Your loved ones don't need an account to view the list or reserve.
How to create your list?
1
Create your list
Give it a title, add your gift ideas with descriptions and product links.
2
Share the link
Copy the unique link and send it via WhatsApp, text or email to your loved ones.
3
Receive your gifts
Your loved ones reserve in secret. You discover your gifts on the big day!
Everything happens from the form at the top of the page, with no sign-up. If the list will be live for several months, a free account lets you reach it from any device; without one, keep the link safe, as it cannot be recovered.
Step 1 β Add a title ('Baby Martin's list'), a short description with the due date, and your first names.
Step 2 β Add items: name, details (size, colour, model), one or more links, and a rough price. The product picture appears automatically from the first link.
Step 3 β For each item, say whether second-hand is fine, and mark your favourites.
Step 4 β Share the link by WhatsApp, text, email or Messenger, or add it to your baby announcement.
Step 5 β Loved ones reserve with their first name and email and confirm through the link they receive (valid for 24 hours). The item is then no longer offered to others.
Checklist: baby list essentials
This list covers the first few months. It isn't exhaustive, and not everything is essential for everyone: your lifestyle (a flat with stairs, car or no car, breast or bottle) changes your needs a lot. Use it as a starting point and strike out what doesn't apply.
Sleep: cot or Moses basket, firm mattress of the right size, 3 fitted sheets, 2 sleeping bags suited to the season
Out and about: pram or travel system, approved car seat (bought new), sling or wrap, changing bag
Feeding: 4 to 6 bottles if you might use them, bottle brush, bottle warmer, bibs, feeding pillow
Changing: changing table or mat, size 1 and 2 nappies, cotton wool, barrier cream, nappy bin
Bath and care: baby bath or bath seat, bath thermometer, 2 hooded towels, medical thermometer, nasal aspirator, nail clippers
Clothes: 6 to 8 vests and as many sleepsuits in newborn, then 0-3 months, a hat, socks, a cardigan
Play and comfort: play mat, bouncer, comforter, mobile, a few cloth books
Safety: baby monitor, night light, stair gates for later
Example baby list by budget
A baby list reaches people with very different budgets: a colleague, a best friend, the grandparents. Offer items at every price level. The amounts below are typical market prices, given only as a guide.
Small budgets, up to β¬30: a pack of vests, a light sleeping bag, a hooded towel, cloth books, a bath thermometer, bibs, a rattle. Mid-range, β¬30 to β¬100: an audio baby monitor, a bouncer, a play mat, a bottle warmer, an ergonomic sling, a mattress. Big-ticket items, over β¬100: cot, car seat, pram, a convertible highchair. These are often given by grandparents or by a group of friends clubbing together.
When to make your baby list, and what about second-hand?
Most parents set up their list between the fifth and seventh month of pregnancy. That's early enough for loved ones to get organised and late enough to know what you'll really need. You can keep adding to it after the birth: needs change quickly, and the list can be edited at any time.
Baby gear lends itself to second-hand: newborn clothes are worn for a few weeks, bouncers and play mats for a few months. Tick the second-hand preference on those items. Keep new for anything directly linked to safety, starting with the car seat and the mattress.
Classic baby list mistakes
Mistake one: asking for everything in newborn size. Many babies only fit it for a few weeks, and some never wear it at all. Spread clothes across newborn, 0-3 months and 3-6 months instead, and give the size on each line. Mistake two: forgetting small budgets. Colleagues and more distant friends often look for a gift around β¬20, and a list that starts at β¬80 pushes them to buy off-list, with the risk of duplicates that brings.
Mistake three: freezing the list. Your needs change after the birth, as you discover what works in hospital and then at home. An online list can be edited at any time without changing the link: add the highchair around month five, remove the bottle warmer if you're breastfeeding. And finally: not saying what you already have. A sentence in the list description, such as 'we already have the pram and the cot', saves a lot of unnecessary shopping.
